Do you believe in what you believe because you believe it, or because someone else wants you to believe it?
I beleve in what I beleve in! No one can tel me what to think! How about you?
Well, simply put, a belief is something you strongly agree with, is it not?
i dont let people tell me what to believe, simple as that.
I don't let others tell me what to believe either. The reason why I changed my beliefs was just ... well, a story that most of you wouldn't believe anyway. It is my own thing what I believe and what not and I don't let other people change my beliefs, that's why I also hate discussing beliefs with others because everyone has his/her own point of view and his&her own belief and I think everybody should respect others opinions about that.
I believe because it is my right not to allow anyone to influence my thoughts, or to force me to agree, with their ideas.
In reference to the comment of believing: We should, no matter what, always respect individuals for what they think or believe in, although we ourselves may not agree.
We should respect them but when you have street evangilists ramming their faith down your throat, with a very loud microphone, its hard not to feel that you're thoughts and rights are being trampled...if people are sure and resolute in their beliefs why do they feel the need to convert others who feel no need for religion... do we threaten their cosy world...
In general, I believe in something because I choose to. In the case of religion, I guess it's because that's what I was tought to be honest, and I do agree with a lot of the things like waiting to have sex until after marriage, the Commandments, and some other things. Also, I've had several times where I nearly died or could've, especially when I was an infant and in the hospital. They had a nurse at that time who also worked in the area I was in and she was harming and killing other infants. Mom told me she was called several times from her job to come because I had died, so she would go and would find that, but she would just start singing to me and I would come back. If that doesn't prove at least to me that there's a God, I don't know what else would. *smiles* And of course this is my personal opinion.

Goblin, I must concur wholeheartedly on the subject of religion. The fact is, if someone says that they do not believe, or that they do not wish to be a certain faith, then they should be respected, and not have it crammed down their throats. People who decide they must cram something of that nature down someone's else's throat, doesn't deserve, nor will they recieve, my respect.
Well, I'm not even gonna get on religion. But, I believe what I beleive because I beliebe it, not cuz someone else wnats me to beleibe it.
First, I wonder how many people would actually admit they believe in this or that because they want to not be alienated by others or because their friends or family do? Do we sometimes think we believe something on our own when it isn't hte case? Second, as for religeon, the reason why some of your more vocal and extreme religious folks, like the street preachers, want to try to influence everyone, is their beliefs teach them they ahve to spread the word which they believe is ultimate joy and assurance. They don't want to see anyone be eternally tortured for not accepting what they see is truth. Not saying it's right, but it's probably how things are from the perspective of your street evangelists.
Aragorn I have found these people are like those who sudenly become a huge fan of a certain band ect. The phrase I love them so you will, is guaranteed to make me take big steps in the opposite direction ...
Religion as fandom? Interesting comparison.
Okay. I think I have stated this a long time ago already, but I totally respect both sides. See I once was a total anti-christian. That's why I understand and respect all people who don't believe. For some reason (which you can read i the religion topics) I turned to god now. This is my own story and my own thing, and I don't want to shove religion down anyone's throat because I hate being forced on something and I made the experience that my family shoved faith down my throat. That's why I was an anti-christian for so many years.
Well you have heard of these born again their "all consuming sense of deep abiding love" inverted commas ...they cannot see past their choice and their burning desire to have you join them it becomes an obsession...people turn to religion to be loved its a deep need to fill an empty hole...
Ok ok, but who really said anything about religion? I was questioning beliefs, or what you believed in. Technically, it had nothing to do with religion. However, I will point out that any time I've asked this quiestion, it's always swung around this way. heheheheheh.
Alright..I believe in Home Rule for Scotland...and that I am living in the best country in the entire world...I believe in the strength and endurance of the human spirit...the right to die should life become intolerable ... that we should make plans to leave Iraq by the end of the month...and the existence of life on other planets..far superior to the human race.
